Responded to high water bill complaint and performed diagnostic investigation. Excavated water service line and discovered corroded copper piping with brass fittings showing significant deterioration and patina buildup. Located active leak in underground plumbing assembly where copper pipe connects to PVC supply line through brass valve connections. Standing water and saturated soil conditions in trench confirmed continuous water loss from compromised fitting. Verified system pressure at 80-90 PSI using calibrated pressure gauge, which exceeded normal operating parameters and likely contributed to joint failure at weakened connection points. Exposed and assessed full plumbing assembly including shutoff valve and transition fittings between copper and PVC sections. Documented conditions with photographs showing extent of corrosion, water accumulation, and component degradation requiring replacement to resolve excessive water consumption issue.
