- Your carbon monoxide alarm goes off. Get everyone out, then call 911 from outside.

Check These 6 Things Before You Call
These take about five minutes and fix more no-heat calls than you’d think:
- Thermostat. Is it set to Heat, and is the set temperature above room temperature? Swap the batteries if the screen is blank.
- Furnace switch. Near the furnace, there’s a switch that looks like a light switch. Make sure it’s on.
- Breaker. Check your electrical panel. If the furnace breaker tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, stop and call us.
- Filter. A clogged filter can make the furnace overheat and shut itself off. Hold it up to a light. If you can’t see through it, replace it.
- Furnace door. The front panel has a safety switch. If the door isn’t fully closed, the furnace won’t run.
- Blinking light. Most furnaces have a small light that blinks a code. Count the blinks and check the chart on the inside of the door. Tell us the code when you call so we can bring the right parts.

Common Furnace Problems We Repair
Furnaces rarely fail without warning. Most of the time, the system gives you signs that something is wrong before it stops working altogether.
Here are the most common issues our technicians see in Atlanta-area homes.
No Heat
If your furnace is running but your home is not warming up, the problem could be a failed ignitor, a faulty gas valve, a tripped safety switch, or a problem with the control board. Our technicians will pinpoint the cause and get your heat back on as quickly as possible.
Furnace Will Not Turn On
A furnace that will not start at all is often caused by a failed ignitor, a tripped circuit breaker, a thermostat issue, or a safety lockout triggered by a deeper problem in the system. We diagnose the root cause rather than just resetting the lockout.
Short Cycling
If your furnace turns on, runs for a short time, and then shuts off before your home reaches temperature, it is short cycling. This is hard on the system, drives up your energy bills, and usually points to an overheating issue, a clogged filter, or a failing component that needs attention.
Unusual Noises
Banging at startup often indicates delayed ignition. Rattling can mean a loose panel or component. Screeching or squealing typically points to a blower motor issue. Any noise that is new or getting worse deserves a professional look.
Weak or Uneven Heat
If some rooms in your home are warm while others stay cold, or if your furnace runs constantly without reaching your set temperature, the problem could be with the furnace itself, your ductwork, or how the system is balanced. We diagnose the full picture.
Yellow or Flickering Burner Flame
A healthy gas furnace burner flame should be steady and blue. A yellow, orange, or flickering flame is a sign of incomplete combustion and a potential carbon monoxide risk. If you see this, turn off the furnace and call us immediately.
Furnace Keeps Tripping the Breaker
A furnace that repeatedly trips its circuit breaker has an electrical issue that needs professional attention. Do not keep resetting it without having the system inspected.
Strange Smells
A brief burning smell at the start of the heating season is usually just dust burning off and is not a concern. However, a persistent burning smell, a rotten egg odor near the furnace, or any chemical smell are all signs that something needs to be inspected immediately. A rotten egg smell specifically indicates a possible gas leak. Leave the home and call your gas company and 911 before calling us.
Transparent Repair Pricing
We always give you the price before we touch a tool. You never pay a penny more than what you approve.

Is Older Homes: Why We Always Check the Vent
Many North Atlanta homes built in the 1950s and ’60s have a gas furnace and gas water heater that share one vent pipe. Over decades, that vent can rust, separate or come loose. When that happens, exhaust gases may not leave the house the way they should.
Watch for these signs:
- Rust or white streaks near the top of your water heater
- A vent pipe that’s loose, sagging or disconnected
- Warm, damp air near the water heater when it’s running
- A carbon monoxide alarm that sounds, even once
From our work near you: At one Doraville home, our team replaced the vent pipe running to the shared connector with a new double-wall B-vent. We secured each joint with lock rings and screws, then ran the furnace and confirmed the new venting was secure and working safely.
