Today, February 26, 2026, we saw VERY heavy rains throughout Atlanta, and it finally feels like spring! It’s reminded me of a few important spring plumbing tips for homeowners in Atlanta that I’d like to share with you.
We see more sump pumps fail in the springtime and during heavy rains when they get overloaded by rain runoff that leaks through cracks in your home’s foundation. You may never think about these pumps, but they work hard all year long to keep your basement and crawlspace from flooding. So, if you’re not sure how old yours is, it’s a very good idea to have it inspected by us!
We also see more underground leaks on potable water lines during large changes in temperature. Pipe materials expand and contract underground with the wide range of spring temperatures we see in Atlanta, which leads to weak points finally breaking. So, keep an eye on your water bill, take note of any standing water in your yard, and if you hear any mystery hissing noises, don’t ignore them! They could be a sign of a costly leak.
Spring in Atlanta also sees trees coming back to life (which you may be well aware of if you have seasonal allergies). It’s not just leaves and branches growing, though! Tree roots grow more in the spring and summer as well, and any that are already inside your sewer line will fill even more space and may lead to backups. If it’s been a while since your sewer line was inspected, spring is a great time to call us for a sewer scope! Mention this blog post for a $50 discount on a sewer scope, through June 1, 2026.
To conclude, I want to share a story about a rainy day just like today when our plumber Gabriel Tarbutton saved the day for some drivers in West Midtown. We plumbers spend a lot of time on the roads too, and about a year ago a city storm drain was severely clogged causing a road blockage. Gabriel came across this mess and didn’t think twice! He hopped out of his van, grabbed his shovel and charged into the murky water to clear the drain. The best part? The only way I even heard about it was because a random passerby called our office to tell us about it! Humility is an important trait that we hire for and we’re proud to have Gabriel on our team.
Thanks to our brave plumbers! And as always thank you to our loyal customers! Call or text 770-PLUMBER anytime we can be of service!
